ARCH 502_SPACEWAYS: IMAGINING AFROFUTURISM

The Architecture 502 Studio at the University of Pennsylvania, Stuart Weitzman School of Design, explores how architecture intersects with urban conditions. Located in the predominantly African American neighborhood along the 52nd Street Corridor in West Philadelphia, the studio focuses on designing a market and transit hub enriched by spaces for community-based groups centered on art, culture, and social justice. The studio also examines how smaller interventions in the urban fabric can lead to significant, positive changes over time. Drawing inspiration from Afrofuturistic art, music, and literature, as well as utopian and alternative strategies for creating equitable and environmentally sound ecologies, the studio challenges existing paradigms through both traditional and innovative practices.

Amazing job to all the students at their final review!
